Penny Mac from Hale Barns was given the big thumbs up by judges at the Open Mic UK auditions. Penny competed for a place in the National Final at The O2 in London and joined thousands of hopefuls who entered nationwide. She made it through the audition stage , the live Regional in front of hundreds of audience members and a professional judging panel and on to perform again at the next level at the National Area Finals. Along with other impressive acts, Penny performed at the live showcase of Open Mic UK 2011 at The Willows in Salford last October & December 2011.
“Many people at my gigs asked why I didn’t enter the X Factor, BGT or The Voice and I always said that there’s no point – I’m too old – they want someone they can market for years etc….
In the end I gave in and though – why not? I’ll give it a go & against all reasonable judgement – entered the Open Mic UK auditions. I now know that I was correct & wish all the young talented artists all the best…. I, in the meantime will continue as a professional singer/musician, and never enter anything like this again!! It was fun though :)”
